1. Talk to your vet

Before you take your pet to a new location, it’s a good idea to see your local vet one last time. During this visit, talk to your vet about how the new environment might affect your pet physically. You’ll also want to be sure to bring all medical records and medications with you.

Ideally, you will locate a new veterinarian in your new location beforehand so that you can tell your old vet exactly where to send the information.

2. Update all tags

Moving is one of the most common times for pets to get lost. It makes sense. The pet doesn’t know the new location. It’s easy to see how they can get confused if they manage to escape. Be sure to have their tags updated with the new address so that if someone finds them, they can bring them to the correct location. Double check that your phone number is updated as well.

3. Keep them away from the chaos

Moving can be chaotic. Don’t let your pets get caught up in the chaos by keeping them isolated. Consider keeping them in a kennel or with a friend or family member for a couple of days. While you might miss your pets for a couple of days, they will probably be much more comfortable. This also gives you the opportunity to set up your home before the pet arrives. Your pet deserves to be comfortable in their new home. Make sure that they are surrounded by their favorite beds and toys. The more comforts from home they have, the more comfortable they will be. You can even get them new items if their old items seem old and dingy.
